“A Solo from the Pit” premiered in May, 2016, and has since successfully toured in Sweden, Germany, Israel, Russia and Ukraine. In this humorous and lyrical musical stand up Elias presents funny eccentric scenes from five famous operas, reinterpreted in the stand up comedy genre, featuring the well known music by Bizet, Verdi and Puccini. The operas’ plots are told from the point of view of the young Elias, a twenty-three year old student who has a side job as the second trombone at the Metropolitan Opera. The reality of his life, his personal joys and sorrows, are interlaced with an amusing, lyrical and sometimes paradoxical reading of Carmen, Tosca, Traviata, Madame Butterfly and Aida. In the end, the young musician makes a decision to quit his secure, stable and promising job for the sake of an unknown, risky future as a solo artist. The journey to this uneasy, dramatic decision is illustrated musically by the swift change from familiar classical tunes to pieces composed by Elias himself (performed in his unique style with live electronics.)
